  1. WinJPEG v1.4 is a shareware image viewer with image processing and
  2. conversion capabilities for Microsoft Windows 3.x.  It has the following
  3. features:

  5. - display JPEG, TARGA, GIF (GIF 87a), or Windows BMP images
  6. - export an image to JPEG, TARGA, GIF (GIF 87a), Windows BMP, or OS/2
  7.   BMP(8-bit or 24-bit)
  8. - display of JPEG images with 1-pass/2-pass quantization and
  9.   Floyd-Steinberg dithering
  10. - color balance: red, green, and blue adjustment
  11. - hue, saturation, and brightness adjustment
  12. - image rotation, vertical/horizontal flip, and image resizing
  13. - batch file conversion of GIF or TARGA files to JPEG
  14. - slideshow: display selected files sequentially with a cycle option
  15. - copy or paste images to or from the clipboard
  16.  
  17. There are two versions of WinJPEG: a 386 version for 386's or better and
  18. a 286 one for 286's or better.  The shareware version is a 286 version. 
  19. The 386 version can be obtained by registering WinJPEG.

  32. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  33. You are free to distribute this shareware version of WinJPEG as long as the
  34. following conditions are met:
  35.   1) the distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above
  36.   2) the contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way
  37.   3) this version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  38.      is permitted.

  41. INSTALLATION NOTES
  42. If there is an old options file, "winjpeg.sav," in your WinJPEG directory,
  43. you must delete it before running version 1.4.
  44.  
  45. WinJPEG 1.4 doesn't require that the work directory is the same as the
  46. directory containing "winjpeg.exe."  If you are using Windows 3.1, you
  47. can have a separate path as your work directory for your pictures.

  50. HOW TO ACCESS ON-LINE HELP
  51. Help for menu commands can be accessed by 1) using the Index command
  52. under the Help menu, 2) pressing shift-F1 and selecting an active menu
  53. item, or 3) selecting an active menu item without releasing the mouse
  54. button, pressing the F1 key, and then releasing the mouse button. Topics
  55. such as JPEG formats, corrupt GIF files, how to obtain updates, etc. are
  56. also accessible under the Index command.

  59. HOW TO REGISTER
  60. If you use WinJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  61. WinJPEG or to delete your copy of WinJPEG.  When you register, you will
  62. receive the latest 286 and 386 versions of WinJPEG, a user manual, and a
  63. collection of JPEG images (we will put as many as we can fit on 2 720k 3
  64. 1/2" floppies, on 1 1.44M 3 1/2" floppy, or on 4 360k 5 1/4" floppies). 
  65. Also, the registered version does not have the reminder-to-register
  66. screen at the start.

  68. Once you are registered, you will receive updates of WinJPEG for free. 
  69. If you have an Internet account or Compuserve account, you will be
  70. e-mailed updates.  Other registered users can obtain updates by sending
  71. us a stamped self-addressed envelope with a disk.  The disk will be
  72. returned with the update and another collection of JPEG images.  Updates
  73. are available when you see a new shareware version.

  75. The registration fee is only $15.  MA residents, add 5% sales tax to the
  76. registration fee.  US residents, add $3 for shipping and non-US
  77. residents, add $8 for shipping.  If you want WinJPEG e-mailed to your
  78. account instead of having it physically mailed to you, there is no extra
  79. shipping charge.
